Well, it wasn't Pedros fault. He pitched a great game, made a couple mistakes and threw too many pitches early. Burnett just out pitched him. I really thought the Phillies were going to come back all the way to the end.

Hamels needs to show up on Saturday.

That analysis is spot on. For the most part the Yankee bats have been silenced. Pedro looked very good last night.

Bigs, do you think they should look to do like a Roger Clemons situation with him next year? Pitch 100-150 innings for them after resting 5-7 days between starts?

I don't know that Pedro will even be back next year really. They've got 4 guys locked in already (Lee, Hamels, Blanton and Happ) and Moyer still has another year on his deal. Plus they've got a couple guys in the minors that may or may not be ready to come up and Kendrick will probably get one more chance to fight for a spot. I guess there's also an outside shot that Brett Myers will resign.

If he does come back, I think his ability will limit his innings, sort of like Moyer. Once in a while he'll pitch very well and go deep into games, but most of the time he'll only end up going 6. I doubt they'll mess with the rotation unless there is a lefty match-up they like and they have an off day to play with.

It's going to be an interesting off season, that's for sure. They absolutely need to get some help off the bench and they could use another arm or two in the 'pen.

I had just finished talking my wife into watching the game tonight. She commented that they are always spiting...then when Utely was at his first at bat they zoomed in on Arod and he shot a stream of boogers out a nostril. She's not watching the game with me anymore. Smile

Ugh.

I know everyone is jumping on Lidge for this one, but I'm blaming it on that f*** overshift they put on Texeria that allowed Damon to steal 2 bases on one pitch. Sure, Lidge hit Texeria and gave up a couple hits, but if Damon isn't on 3rd (or 2nd for that matter) Lidge pitches completely differently and I'll bet he gets out of the inning.

If the Phils got to the 9th tied, they would have scored a run off of Coke.

You know this is coming ... "I told you so."

Just busting balls. I agree, Lidge would have pitched different.

I am sorry, but I am still putting this on Lidge, although i do agree that the shift was overdone.

Think about it, your best pitch is a slider, but now if a man is on third you won't be aggressive and use that pitch? When you play that way you lose ball games.

Look, Lidge still has to pitch and he can't give up 3 runs, but having a man on 3rd changes the way he pitches. Now he can't throw his slider in the dirt. Really though, there should have been a conversation about who was covering where if Damon stole 2nd.

They "lost" the game in the 9th, but they really lost it early when they got guys on base and couldn't score them. That's been the difference, when the Yankees get guys on, they score them. The Phillies haven't.

They Yankees are just playing better smarter baseball then the Phillies.

The other thing that no one brought up was that the first pitch that Lidge gave Tex was to the outside... with the shift on, if he goes opposite field with that ball no one is there... Why would you pitch Tex outside when everyone is shifted for a pulled ball?

"If...they would have..." come on let's get rid of the wishful thinking statements Wink Smile ... Yanks 3-1, one more baby

If Chase Utley does not get the MVP in this series regardless of the winner, I am going to be pissed. That guy is hitting the snot out of the ball.

Who would get it for the Yankees at this point? Jeter I guess?

If Petite is lights out tomorrow and they win will he have pitched enough to get it? He was pretty good in Game 3.

Other then that nobody really stands out for them.

Utley would be the clear winner for the Phils as of now.

If Andy is a stud tonight and they win then he would get the MVP.

Utley should get it regardless. No one other player has dominated like he has in the batting box during this series.

.333, 5 HR, 1 DB, 8 RBI, 3 BB, 1 SB

All 6 of his hits have been for extra bases.

Pettite did win a game, but his ERA is 6+. Not MVP in my book.

Utley has dominated- no question... but there is no way the MVP should come from the losing team (although the only time it did happen was in 1960 and it was Bobby Richardson on the New York Yankees)... My personal opinion is that the MVP should be the player that has been most critical to the team's success and that the team should have success in order to have the MVP...

I think Damon makes quite a case for it at this juncture...

.381 avg (currently highest in the series), 2 Doubles, 4 RBIs, 2 BBs, 3 SBs (not to mention how critical two of those stolen bases were in one play)

Still a lot of baseball to play though so we will see...

Damon is the only Yankee that I would deem fit for it, but this series would be over it it were not for Utley. Damon has really only affected the outcome of one game and I think Utleys stats are more impressive.

I know the winning team will get the MVP, but I am so impressed with Utley. That guy has really stepped it up.
