Just curious, when you are really dragging your ass and don't feel like doing anything, what do you do to get motivated, or do you just say screw it and grab the remote?

Depends ...

If I am sore from a previous workout, remote is going to get a workout. If I had a rest day before or have no soreness, I am dragging my sorry butt into the garage. The other alternative is to do both by doing body weight exercises during the commercials.

Hand stand push ups
push ups
dips
tricep dips
bulgarian squats
sissy squats
pull ups
planks
crunches

I am sure there are more but I often will go easy on a workout by doing body weight only stuff instead of heading into the garage to pump iron.

Sort of like "Dad", if I've been doing good lately and I feel lazy then I take the day off. If I've been lazy and it's starting to become habitual, I get after it.

I think the question of is why don't you have the motivation?

Yeah, I find when I have taken some time off, for whatever reason, I lack motivation to get back into it. I know I will be motivated once I start again and I know I will feel great but it is the initial getting into the gym and lifting that I am totally unmotivated to do!!!

I know what you mean. Those first couple workouts are tough to get up for. It's so easy to just say "one more week off won't make a difference". Once you get a couple workouts under your belt the motivation will come back, at least it does for me.

Do you have a workout partner? That might help! Smile

No, no partner. It's hard to find someone with the same interest in weight lifting as me that has the same schedule.

I just remind myself that once I actually get out the door and into the gym that I'll get into it....usually getting off the couch in the first place is the hardest part

Normally if I do not feel motovated before I go to the gym or at the beginning of a workout, I will feel motovated once I get into the workout. If I don't feel motovated after a few sets my body is trying to tell me something like I need some rest and don't need to workout that day. That doesn't happen often, but it does happen. You have to learn to listen to your body and understand what it is telling you.

Psh, I've seen that. And I actually thought about citing that example as well. But did not, because sadly it's not in the same league as Rocky montages.

I realize what would happen to me at the academy if I didnt have a size and strength advantage. That works just fine...

Nothing like throwing in a Rocky DVD and watching the 5 to 10 minutes before his big fight. Always gets me to want to work out. I used to work out in a barn as a kid, so Rocky IV really gets me wanting to punch someone in the face and lift a million pounds. Very Happy
